This section aims to provide all the relevant information with regard to hiring a basic cash register.
How does a basic cash register record sales?
A basic till is one where you enter the price of the item you are selling, and use one of the preset department keys in order to sell that item. For example, selling a 50p pencil in the stationery department would involve the keystrokes 5-0-Stationery.
Scanning & Advanced Functions
No basic tills have the ability to keep track of stock, and neither can they be linked to a scanner to read barcodes from products. They are primarily just to allow you to keep track of your takings day-by-day.
Receipts and Audit Rolls
We have two options in terms of till receipt and audit rolls – all cash registers come with either one roll, which operates as the receipt roll and is also used to print reports, or two rolls. In the case of two roll machines, one roll constantly prints as you carry out your sales, and is rolled up automatically onto a spool inside the cash register. This gives you an audit or journal roll, with which you can look back at the full sales and reporting history of your cash register. The other is used to provide customer receipts if required, and to print your current financial (X) and end-of-day (Z) reports.
The choice between a 1 or 2 roll model is down to you, the retailer, as your requirements will dictate whether or not you need the audit roll.
All our basic cash registers can be programmed to print your Company name, address, VAT number etc etc, depending on your requirements. Please note that there is a limit to the number of characters and lines that can be printed – this varies model-to-model.
